This Week: Off to Meet the Wizard (of IDD)

Scott IDD

Scott Perschke will fill in for Alan Seltzer on Thursday’s edition of “The Grooveyard” while Alan is on vacation.  He’ll feature a wide variety of music from the Grooveyard era on the show, which starts at 9 PM on WCWP-FM.  The week’s Top Ten @ 10 will feature the popular hits of January 17, 1962.

Listeners to WCWP-FM know Scott as the host of the Wednesday night edition of The Rock Show, also known as “Anything That’s Rock ‘n Roll”.  However, Scott is better known as a forerunner in social networking groups.  Before the days of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or even MySpace, Scott was the founder of the “Idiot’s Delight Digest”, a network of listeners of Vin Scelsa’s free-form music and interview show.  Scott approached Vin with the concept 18 years ago, and the Digest was born on a user-net in February 0f 1995.  The Digest has evolved with the technology and development of the Internet, going from user groups to chat rooms to Yahoo Groups and Facebook since then.  There’s even a baseball fantasy league that began with subscribers of the Digest.  An annual barbeque of group members was mentioned prominently when the Village Voice featured the Digest prominently as an example of early online networking in 1998.

Both “The Grooveyard” and “The Rock Show” can be heard on 88.1 FM on Long Island, the 88.1 FM link on wcwp.org or the TuneIn app on your SmartPhone.  Feel free to follow us on Twitter and send song requests, non-political rants, comments and suggestions below.  And listen to Scott and Alan on…
