Before we get to the update of the Summer Song Survey, two brief notes:
- You can text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief, which helps people affected by disasters like yesterday’s tornadoes in Oklahoma. Details are on their website here.
- Along with the results of the Summer Song Survey, we will be joined by Gary U.S. Bonds on next week’s edition of “The Grooveyard”. Gary will be talking about his new autobiography, which will be released during his annual birthday bash at BB Kings in Times Square Wednesday, June 5th.
Now on to the survey…
With less than one week left before voting ends, the race for the top position in our second annual Summer Song Survey is still close. One song has taken a slight lead, with four songs in a virtual tie for second place. Each of those four songs–or a few others–could easily move into the first place spot with strong voter support in the last week.
In terms of artists, the Beach Boys and Bryan Hyland continue their traditional hold on summer music. Bryan has two songs currently in the Top 6, while the California band has three songs in the Top 15.
You can vote for your 10 favorite summer songs from the Grooveyard era–that’s the pre-British Invasion years–once a day until the poll closes on Memorial Day–May 27th–the unofficial start of Summer. There’s also a space for write-in votes on the survey, which is included here. Eligible write-in songs are added to the main survey daily. Daily updates are also available on Twitter @GrooveyardWCWP.
Host Alan Seltzer will count down your favorites on “The Grooveyard” on Thursday, May 30th starting at 9 PM on WCWP. “The Grooveyard” can be heard on 88.1 FM on Long Island, the 88.1 FM link on wcwp.org or the TuneIn app on your SmartPhone.
