Marilyn Monroe got married. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis split up. Blockbuster movies “The King and I” and “The Ten Commandments” made it to the big screen. Elvis Presley shook his hips while singing “Hound Dog” on the Milton Berle Show. And Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in the World Series.
This Thursday at 9 PM, Alan Seltzer will focus on the music and events of 1956 in another Flashback special show on “The Grooveyard”. We’ll play all the songs that made it to number one in order, plus clips from some of the major events of the year and as many other hits from the year as possible.
Also on Thursday, voting in the poll for the best songs of 1961 will end. You can vote for that survey along with a similar one for your favorites of 1958. A new Grooveyard Greats poll for the best songs of 1956 begins this week. Check the “Grooveyard Greats” page for details. Updates are available by following us on Twitter.
Hosted by Alan Seltzer, “The Grooveyard” can be heard on 88.1 FM on Long Island, the 88.1 FM link on wcwp.org or the TuneIn app on your SmartPhone. Feel free to send song requests, comments and suggestions via Twitter or our comments and dedications pages.
