We celebrate a rarity on the Billboard charts this week in 1957, when the top six songs on the pop and R&B charts were the same. Elvis was #1 with “Jailhouse Rock”, qualifying him for our Video of the Week. The rest of the top six: “Wake Up Little Susie” by the Everly Brothers, “You Send Me” by Sam Cooke, “Silhouettes” by the Rays, “Be-Bop Baby” by Ricky Nelson, and “Honeycomb” by Jimmie Rodgers.
Don’t forget that voting continues on the “Grooveyard Greats” listener surveys. You can choose your favorite songs of 1956 and 1958 once a day. Details, a schedule of all the first-round polls and rules are here. Updates on voting are available via Twitter. And join Alan Seltzer on “The Grooveyard” Thursday nights at 9 PM ET on wcwp.org, or on 88.1 FM in Nassau County.
