We actually four videos this week as a post-Thanksgiving gift to our listeners. On this date in 1959, Bobby Darin was honored on “This Is Your Life”, the iconic television show Guests included Murray the K, George Burns, Sammy Davis, Jr., Charlie and Nina Maffia, Dick Lord, Don Kirshner, and Dick Behrke. The first part of that show is above, with Parts 2 and 3 below.
And since this is Hungerthon week, when we focus on WhyHunger’s efforts to develop grassroots solutions to hunger issues, here’s an appropriate video, also by Bobby Darin:
Speaking of Hungerthon, the “Sing Alan Sing” challenge to benefit WhyHunger’s grassroots efforts to end hunger both in the United States and abroad continues through next week. Donations of any amount are welcomed here. Donations go to WhyHunger, which supports programs around the country like Neighbors Together in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn, NY. Over 8,000 people walk through their doors each year seeking help with the bare basics of life: food, shelter and employment opportunities. Just as important, WhyHunger has the rare accomplishment of getting three consecutive four-star ratings–the highest possible–from Charity Navigator, a major rating firm in the non-profit sector.
Voting continues for the final round of the “Grooveyard Greats” listener surveys. The top vote-getters from the first round surveys advanced to the finals. You can choose your 15 favorite songs of the first round winners here daily through December 19th. Updates on voting are available via Twitter. And join Alan Seltzer on “The Grooveyard” Thursday nights at 9 PM ET on wcwp.org, or on 88.1 FM in Nassau County.
