Video of the Week: June 16, 2014

Over the weekend, Grooveyard host Alan Seltzer brought home two parakeets, named Pepper (after Sgt. Pepper, his first parakeet) and Robin, after the song in this week’s video.  The hope is that Robin will go “tweet, tweet, tweet” just like the bird in the song, and “we’re really gonna rock tonight”.  Here’s photos of the two birds…

Pepper–on the left–is a Lutino, or yellow-feathered parakeet, just like his namesake.  Robin is more comfortable in his home so far, spending time exploring the different perches.  Both of them want you to vote in the Summer Song Survey here.

The song “Rockin’ Robin” was written by Leon René, a songwriter and record executive who also wrote “Little Bitty Pretty One” and “Over and Over” with Bobby Day.  “Over and Over”, the B-side of “Rockin’ Robin”, was better known for the 1965 hit Dave Clark Five version.  Here’s both songs.  First the Bobby Day version . . .

…and a live version by the DC5…
