This Week: A Bandstand Boogie

Bandstand Dick Clark

Thursday night at 9 PM, “The Grooveyard” honors the anniversary of Dick Clark beginning host duties on the show that became “American Bandstand” by playing music by artists that performed on the show.  On July 9. 1956, Clark replaced Bob Horn on a local dance show on WFIL in Philadelphia called “Bandstand” after the original host was charged with DUI.  The show would continue to run for 37 years.

We’ll also be giving away a WCWP logopair of tickets to a concert by Jay Black at Tilles Center at LIU Post on Saturday, July 26.  Black, also known as “The Voice,” was the lead singer of the band Jay and the Americans. The band had numerous hits including Cara Mia, Come a Little Bit Closer, and This Magic Moment. Proceeds from this performance will benefit Tikva Children’s Home.  The Top Ten @ 10 will feature the hits of July 10, 1962.

Hosted by Alan Seltzer, “The Grooveyard” can be heard on 88.1 FM on Long Island, the 88.1 FM link on or the TuneIn app on your SmartPhone.
