While Elvis Presley appeared on New York-based television programs like the Ed Sullivan and Steve Allen shows, recorded music in local studios and even embarked to Germany from Brooklyn when he was in the Army, it took a long time before he played a stage show in the area. That changed the weekend of June 9-11, 1972, when he performed at Madison Square Garden for the first time. We’ll share highlights from one of those shows Thursday night at 9 PM as we commemorate the upcoming anniversary of his death on “The Grooveyard”.
Along with the concert special, host Alan Seltzer will count down the Top Ten @ 10 for August 14, 1957. “The Grooveyard” can be heard on 88.1 FM on Long Island, the 88.1 FM link on wcwp.org or the TuneIn app on your SmartPhone. (You can also click the logo on the right.) Join us on. . .
