It’s the party too big for just one show.

On Thursday night, “The Rock Show” joins “The Grooveyard” to celebrate what would have been Elvis Presley’s 80th birthday.  Jeff Kroll will play many of Elvis’ greatest hits at 7 PM on “The Rock Show”.   Highlights of a 1972 concert at Madison Square Garden–the artist’s first live shows in New York–will be featured on “The Grooveyard” starting at 9 PM.

While Elvis appeared on New York-based television programs like the Ed Sullivan and Steve Allen shows, recorded music in local studios and even embarked to Germany from Brooklyn when he was in the Army, it took a long time before he played a stage show in the area.  That changed with the four MSG shows the weekend of June 9-11, 1972, when he performed four shows.
