The Twist phenomenon and a tribute to Cory Wells of Three Dog Night are featured this week on “The Grooveyard” and “Saturday Soiree”.
Thursday night at 9 PM, guest host Bobby G celebrates Chubby Checker’s 1961 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, when he performed a medley of “The Twist” and “Let’s Twist Again”. The attention boosted both singles back into the Hot 100, and shot “The Twist” back to #1 in early 1962, marking the only time the same single has hit the top spot in two separate years. Bobby will both play hits by Chubby Checker and other “twist” songs. The Top Ten @ 10 features the top songs of October 22, 1963.
Meanwhile, voting continues in the Grooveyard Great 88 survey. Polls closes at the end of “The Grooveyard” Thursday on the survey for your favorite songs of 1961. Surveys are also now open for your 10 favorite songs of 1958 and 1963. Details and a first-round schedule are available here.
On the Saturday Soiree, host Alan Seltzer will pays tribute to Three Dog Night founding member Cory Wells, who died on Wednesday with an hour of the group’s hits. The Soiree Survey offers the top songs of October 24, 1970. The show starts Saturday at 7 PM.
