This Week: A Rock and Roll Ball

The 61st anniversary of the very first Alan Freed Rock and Roll Ball in New York City will be celebrated Saturday night on “The Grooveyard”.  Host Alan Seltzer will play songs by artists who performed at that show, including Big Joe Turner, the Clovers, Fats Domino, the Moonglows, the Drifters and the Harptones.  recordings of a Freed concert will also be included.

In addition, the Grooveyard Top Ten will feature the hits of January 16, 1959.  Our “Under the Covers” segment will pay tribute to the late David Bowie in our own style by playing some of his cover versions of Grooveyard-era songs.  We’ll also play some of your favorite songs during the all-new Grooveyard Party Hour starting at 9 PM.

Love Songs SurveyVoting is now open for your favorite Love Songs of the Grooveyard era in our pre-Valentines Day listener survey.  There’s two different polls, one for love songs of the 1950s, and one for love songs from 1960-1963.  Pick your 10 favorites WCWP logo newfrom each group of years daily through January 30th at 10 PM.  You can also write in other songs if your choice isn’t listed.  Details are available here.
