This Weekend: Showtime!

We celebrate Harlem Week on the Grooveyard this week by featuring artists who performed at the iconic Apollo Theatre.

Many performers started their careers at Amateur Nights at the theatre, which opened in 1914.  This includes Stevie Wonder, the Isley Brothers, the Supremes and many others.  A live album recorded there by James Brown in 1962 is in the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress and was named one of the top albums of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.

In addition, host Alan Seltzer will share the Grooveyard Top 10 with the hits of August 5, 1961 and we’ll play more of your favorites during the Grooveyard Party hour.
