1961 – The Results

The survey for your favorites from 1961was a story of haves and have-nots.  Ten different songs wound up within 2% of the top position.  Included were three songs that just missed repeating in the Top Five, resulting in only one repeat song in that category.  Last year’s #1 song overall, Del Shannon’s “Runaway” wound up in the Top Five for the fourth consecutive year.  Among the other 51 songs receiving support, only one had more than half the number of votes of the 10th highest song on the survey.

Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:

“Runaround Sue” by Dion

“My True Story” by The Jive Five

“A Hundred Pounds of Clay” by Gene McDaniels

“Runaway” by Del Shannon

“Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” by The Shirelles
