This Week: A Wall and a Project

A “Wall of Sound” and a Doo-Wop Project will be featured on The Grooveyard this week.

Host Alan Seltzer will celebrate the anniversary of the release of “A Christmas Gift for You from Phil Spector” by sharing an hour of songs from the iconic producer.  The album’s release on November 22, 1963 was eclipsed in history by another newsworthy event the same day, but has had a major effect on music history.  We’ll play songs produced–and sung–by Spector during the tribute.

This will be your last chance to win a pair of tickets to see The Doo-Wop Project at the Madison Theatre in Rockville Center on November 26.  In their shows, the group traces the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of five guys singing tight harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today.  In addition, we’ll feature the hits of November 18, 1958 on the Grooveyard Top Ten and play your requests during the Grooveyard Party Hour.

First-round voting ends Saturday in our sixth annual Grooveyard Great 88 listener survey.  The final poll for the best songs from 1959  closes Saturday at 10 PM at end of Saturday’s show.  You can also find the results of earlier surveys in the Great 88 section.  The final round will begin Thanksgiving week.
