Diversity traditionally reigns in the survey for the best songs of 1958, and our seventh annual survey was no exception. A total of 66 different songs received some attention. Danny and the Juniors, Dion and Tommy Edwards all returned to the top five songs for the second consecutive year. A fourth song from last year’s top five, Conway Twitty’s “It’s Only Make Believe”, just missed the honor.
Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:
“Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry
“At the Hop” by Danny and the Juniors
“I Wonder Why” by Dion and the Belmonts
“It’s All in the Game” by Tommy Edwards
“La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens
