Unlike most years, two songs dominated the 2018 Great 88 survey for hits from 1955 and earlier. “Maybelline” and “Earth Angel” each had over 8% of the votes, more than any song received in a first-round survey in 2017. There were three repeats from 2017 in the Top 5: The Penguins returned for a record sixth consecutive year, Fats Domino is back for a third straight year, and the Robins repeated a second time.
