While the 2017 survey for the best songs of 2017 set a new record for the number of songs repeating in the top five from the previous year, this year’s survey was a lot closer. Only two songs repeated from 2017, with Dion and the Belmonts returning for a fifth year and Johnny Maestro and the Crests returning a third time. A third song, Jackie Wilson’s “Lonely Teardrops” missed repeating a fifth year by only two votes
Here’s the top five songs from 1959 alphabetically by artist:
“The Angels Listened In” by the Crests
“A Teenager in Love” by Dion and the Belmonts
“Sea Cruise” by Frankie Ford
“Sorry (I Ran All the Way Home)” by The Impalas
“Shout” by The Isley Brothers
