1956 – The Results

The 2019 survey for the best songs of 1956 was a mix of three repeating favorites and other popular hits.  The number 2 song in the history of the survey,  “In the Still of the Night” reached the top five for a record seventh year.  The song only missed the Top Five in 2013, the second year of the survey.  Elvis Presley (“Don’t Be Cruel”) and Fats Domino both repeated fora third consecutive year.  In fact, Elvis scored a double-double this year with a second Top Five song.  Fats Domino came close to that record with a second song missing the Top Five by only 0.15%.

Here’s the top five songs from 1956 alphabetically by artist:

“Blueberry Hill” by Fats Domino

“In the Still of the Night” by Five Satins

“Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley

“Don’t Be Cruel” by Elvis Presley

“Let the Good Times Roll” by Shirley and Lee
