1962 – The Results


The first round contest for the top songs of 1962 was unusually close, with only .26% separating the top five songs, and the top eight separated by less than a percent.  Freddy Cannon, Dion and the Isley Brothers all repeated in the highest positions for a second year.

Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:

“Duke of Earl” by Gene Chandler

“The Wanderer” by Dion and the Belmonts

“Twist and Shout” by The Isley Brothers

“The Loco-motion” by Little Eva
