This Weekend: A Great 58!


The station of “The Grooveyard”, WCWP radio celebrates it’s 58th anniversary on the air with a 60-hour Homecoming Weekend.  The station first broadcast as a carrier current station on October 18, 1961, moving to 88.1 FM following construction and licensing a few years later.

Continuing the LIU Post Homecoming tradition, alumni returning to host shows they did as students.  Many favorites from the station’s history will join in the fun from Friday at noon through Sunday at midnight.  While “The Grooveyard” will be not be heard this week as a result, host Alan Seltzer will bring back “Seltzer With a Twist” at a special time and day Friday night from 8-10 PM.

Meanwhile, voting continues in the eighth annual Great 88 surveys.  The survey for the 10 best songs of 1961 closes on Saturday at 11 PM.  You can also pick your 10 favorite songs from  1955 and 1957  here daily.  A full first round schedule and additional information can be found here.   You can also find the results of earlier surveys in the Great 88 section.
