Like other 2019 Great 88 listener surveys, the poll for the best songs of 1955 and earlier were unusually close. Ten songs finished in striking distance of first place. That was a significant change from last year’s poll when The Penguins and Chuck Berry’s Maybelline each had an unusually high 8% of the vote. Both came back to normalcy this year. While the Penguins made the top five for a seventh straight year, Chuck Berry did well but missed the Top 10 by less than a quarter of a percent.
