1961 – The Results

The scenario is the same, but the songs are different.

Only six votes separated the top four songs, with a significant drop after the top-rated hits.  Only a dozen songs were within 2% of the top position, and another seven were within 3%.  Dion and Gene McDaniels made it to the top five for the fourth straight year, while Rosie and the Originals missed reaching the top five songs by only three votes.  On the other hand, Del Shannon returned to the top five for the seventh time after missing that rank last year and having it’s worst finish in the survey overall.

Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:

“Runaround Sue” by Dion

“Pretty Little Angel Eyes” by Curtis Lee

“A Hundred Pounds of Clay” by Gene McDaniels

“Runaway” by Del Shannon

“Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” by The Shirelles
