The importance of diligent voting was the key in the ninth annual vote for your favorite songs of 1956. Two traditional favorites just missed the Top Five by one vote each. Defending champion “In the Still of the Night” missed a record-setting seventh straight year among the highest-ranking songs by the single check-mark, while “Let the Good Times Roll” by Shirley and Lee fell short of a third consecutive year. Among those that made the Top Five, Little Richard had two songs, Fats Domino achieved the high mark with the third different song in four years and Gogi Grant returned to the group for the first time in four years.
Here’s the top five songs from 1956 alphabetically by artist:
“My Blue Heaven” by Fats Domino
“The Wayward Wind” by Gogi Grant
“Long Tall Sally” by Little Richard
“Tutti Frutti” by Little Richard
“Singing the Blues” by Guy Mitchell
