1963 – The Results

While most of the 2020 first round Great 88 surveys offered upsets, the poll for 2020 was almost a carbon copy of the 2019 poll.  Four of the Top Five songs repeated from 2019, and most are regulars on this list.  The Ronettes appeared for the fifth straight year, and The Drifters and Chiffons were on the list for the third consecutive time.  The Kingsmen made the list for the second consecutive year and the third time in the last four surveys.  The Exciters made the Top Five for the first time in the survey’s history.

Here’s the top five songs from 1963 alphabetically by artist:

“He’s So Fine” by The Chiffons

“Up on the Roof” by The Drifters

“Tell Him” by The Exciters

“Louie Louie” by The Kingsmen

“Be My Baby” by The Ronettes

This was the final first-round Great 88 survey for 2019.   Check out the full schedule here, and get updates on Twitter.  The Final Round surveys will be online later this week.
