This Weekend: A Winter Dance Party


Saturday night at 7 PM, “The Grooveyard” looks back at the 1959 Winter Dance Party tour, focusing on the artists who died in the plane crash in Clear Lake, Iowa on February 3, 1959.   Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper died in that crash on what is now known as “The Day the Music Died”.

Along with the music of the three artists, host Alan Seltzer will share radio promos for the tour, other artists who participated, two interviews with Holly.  His music will also be featured in our Under the Covers segment.

In addition, the Grooveyard Top 10 will feature the hits of January 30, 1962, we’ll play your favorites during the Grooveyard Party hour and update voting in our Love Song Survey.

Love Songs SurveyVoting closes Saturday at 10 AM in our annual Love Song Survey  There’s two different polls, one for love songs of the 1950s, and one for love songs from 1960-1963.  Pick 10 favorites from each group of years daily through January 30th at 10 PM.  You can also write in other songs if your choice isn’t listed.  Details are available here.
