This Weekend: Playing Chess

Saturday night at 7 PM, “The Grooveyard” celebrates recording executive Leonard Chess with an hour of songs released on Chess Records and it’s subsidiaries shortly after what would have been his 104th birthday.

Founded in 1950 and run by Leonard and his brother Phil, the company produced and released many important singles and albums, which are now regarded as central to the rock music canon. Musician and critic Cub Koda described Chess Records as “America’s greatest blues label.”  The Grooveyard Top Ten will feature the hits of March 20. 1963, and we’ll play your favorites during the Grooveyard Party Hour.

Listen to “The Grooveyard” following “Rick’s Redneck Ranch” each Saturday night at 7 PM on 88.1 FM on Long Island or by clicking the 88.1 FM link on wcwp.org, via the TuneIn app. or the  WCWP app on your iPhone or Android device.  You can also follow us on Twitter. and on the Facebook groups for the show and WCWP.
