1960 – The Results

The survey for the best songs of 1960 is traditionally known for it’s tight races, but that was not the case in the tenth annual survey. The number of songs within a percent of the top song went from 20 in 2019 to eight last year to only three in 2021. There was consistency within that top group, with four songs repeating in the Top Five. Kathy Young and the Innocents made the top positions for the fourth straight year, while Gary U.S. Bonds was there for three straight, and Hank Ballard and the Midnighters and Bobby Rydell returned for a second year.

Here’s the top five songs from 1960 alphabetically by artist:

“Let’s Go Let’s Go Let’s Go” by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters

“New Orleans” by Gary US Bonds

“Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop” by Little Anthony and the Miracles

“Volare” by Bobby Rydell

“A Thousand Stars” by Kathy Young and the Innocents
