The station of “The Grooveyard”, WCWP radio celebrates it’s 60th anniversary on the air this weekend with a 60-hour Homecoming Weekend special. The station first broadcast as a carrier current station on October 18, 1961, moving to 88.1 FM following construction and licensing a few years later.
Continuing the LIU Post Homecoming tradition, alumni returning to host shows they did as students. Many favorites from the station’s history will join in the fun from Friday at noon through Sunday at midnight. While “The Grooveyard” will be not be heard this week as a result, host Alan Seltzer will bring back “Seltzer With a Twist” at a special time and day Saturday night from 10 PM to midnight.
With Bernie Bernard, Bobby G and Mike Riccio doing shows immediately prior to “Seltzer with a Twist”, this will be the first time the four original hosts of The Rock Show will be in the studio together in over 11 years. It will also be Alan’s first in-studio show since the start of the pandemic.
Following the Homecoming Weekend, the station will mark the 60th anniversary of the actual first broadcast Monday at noon. Hank Niemark, an original alumnus who went on to produce many films and television shows, will host a discussion with other alumni who went into broadcasting as a result of their time at WCWP.
