1961 – The Results

Another year, another tight race in the 10th annual Great 88 survey of the best songs of 1961. Only 10 votes separated the six songs with the highest scores. Rosie and the Originals again narrowly missed the Top Five by only one vote, a year after falling short by three votes. The songs with repeat visits were also familiar: Dion returned for the fifth consecutive year, and seventh overall, while Curtis Lee and the Shirelles each maintaining their positions for two straight years.

Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:

“Runaround Sue” by Dion

“Walk Right Back” by The Everly Brothers

“Pretty Little Angel Eyes” by Curtis Lee

“I’ve Told Every Little Star” by Linda Scott

“Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” by The Shirelles
