1962 – The Results

The only thing consistent about the first round contest for the top songs of 1962 is inconsistency. While last year’s survey offered two artists who reached the Top Five for the first time, only one song–by The Majors–accomplished that level less than three times overall. There were three repeats from last year, with Gene Chandler returning a third consecutive year and the Majors and Orlons coming back a second time.

Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:

“Palisades Park” by Freddy Cannon

“Duke of Earl” by Gene Chandler

“Twist and Shout” by The Isley Brothers

“A Wonderful Dream” by The Majors

“The Wah-Watusi” by the Orlons

This is the final first-round survey in the 10th annual Great 88 survey. The final round will begin later this week. Check out the first-round results here, and get updates on Twitter
