The Grooveyard pays tribute to Don K. Reed this Saturday night. Reed, a disc jockey on the iconic oldies radio station WCBS-FM and the long-time host of “The Doo Wop Shop”, passed away last month.
Don called Grooveyard host Alan Seltzer the “keeper of the flame” of the early music during a 2014 visit to the show, and was so popular with artists from the genre that they wrote songs for him. Along with sharing many doo-wop favorites, we’ll sample a few of those songs. An “Under the Covers” segment also focuses on “In the Still of the Night”, the Five Satins doo wop classic that was always #1 on CBS-FM’s Top 500 surveys. A tribute to Reed is available here.
The Grooveyard Top 10 will feature the hits of August 13, 1960, and we’ll play your favorites and share a few cuts from the newly released Everly Brothers CD during the Grooveyard Party hour.
