In a rarity, three of the four artists reaching the Top 5 in 2021 returned to their positions in this year’s first round poll for 1957, but most had different songs. Buddy Holly and the Crickets again dominated with two in the Top 5, and another pair in the Top 10. Meanwhile, the Del Vikings also switched their top song. “Wake Up Little Susie” returned fr the second consecutive year, and the sixth overall. The only new artist, Dale Hawkins, edged out Elvis Presley.
Here’s the top five songs from 1957 alphabetically by artist:
“Whispering Bells” by The Del Vikings
“Wake Up Little Susie” by The Everly Brothers
“Suzie Q” by Dale Hawkins
“Oh, Boy!” by Buddy Holly and the Crickets
“That’ll Be the Day” by Buddy Holly
