Best of: A Super Survey Spectacular

Not one, but three great surveys are featured this Saturday night on The Grooveyard. First, host Alan Seltzer plays some favorite early rock songs from Rolling Stone magazines’ recent 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. The list, updated last month for the first time in 17 years, is based on the opinions of over 250 artists, musicians, and producers, along with figures from the music industry and journalists. Each submitted a ranked list of their 50 favorite songs.

Later on, we offer two separate Grooveyard Top Ten surveys for the date in history. Continuing the show’s tradition, our pre-Homecoming Weekend show offers the top hits of October 9, 1961, the year WCWP first went on the air. That will be followed by the survey for October 9, 1955, officially opening voting from that year on this year’s Great 88. The two surveys coincidentally offer four additional songs from the Rolling Stone survey. The show wraps up with more of your favorites during the Grooveyard Party Hour.

Firrst-round voting continues for the 10th annual Great 88 listener survey. Voting closes Saturday for the best songs of 1955 and earlier. You can also pick your 10 favorite songs from 1959 and 1961 daily. A full first-round schedule and additional information can be found here. You can also find results of the first ten annual surveys here.
