1962 – The Results

The Top Five songs from the first round Great 88 survey for 1962 offered many old favorites. Gene Chandler returned to the top positions for the fourth straight year, while the Orlons repeated a third consecutive time and a fifth time overall. While Freddie Cannon only repeated a second consecutive year, he has made this first round eight out of the survey’s 11 years. On the other end of the spectrum, Dee Dee Sharp edged out six other artists in a close race for her first appearance in the Top Five.

Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:

“Palisades Park” by Freddie Cannon

“Duke of Earl” by Gene Chandler

“Do You Love Me” by The Contours

“The Wash-Watusi” by The Orlons

“Mashed Potato Time” by Dee Dee Sharp
