Voters in the survey for your favorite songs of 1958 took many of their choices from the Grooveyard playlist during the voting period. Tommy Edwards had the number one song in the Grooveyard Top Ten the day the survey opened, and Duane Eddy and Conway Twitty were part of a Rockabilly feature the day the survey closed. This was the first time since the first Great 88 survey that the Everly Brothers were not represented in the top five songs in the first round survey for the year. In another rarity, there were no repeat songs from 2015’s survey.
Here’s the top five songs from 1958 alphabetically by artist:
“Rebel Rouser” by Duane Eddy
“It’s All in the Game” by Tommy Edwards
“Little Star” by The Elegants
“Don’t You Just Know It” by Huey “Piano” Smith and the Clowns
“It’s Only Make Believe” by Conway Twitty
