The survey for your favorites from 1961 is traditionally one of the closest, and this year’s poll was no exception. All but seven songs on the survey received some attention, and there were also write-in votes for four songs that did not appear on the original list. Overall, 16 songs came within 2.5% of the song with the most votes. Only one song repeated from the 2014 top five: “Runaway”, a former #1 song on the Great 88, reached the top five for the third consecutive year.
Here’s the top five songs in alphabetical order by artist:
“Quarter to Three” by Gary U.S. Bonds
“Pretty Little Angel Eyes” by Curtis Lee
“Angel Baby” by Rosie and the Originals
“Runaway” by Del Shannon
“Rubber Ball” by Bobby Vee
