Unlike last year’s survey for your favorite songs of 1962, when voting was very diverse and no songs repeated from the previous year, only 41 songs received attention in this year’s poll. For an unknown reason, write-ins included songs by Walter Brennan and Robert Mitchum, two great actors with minimal vocal skills. However, three artists had songs repeating in the Top Five from the previous year–Freddy Cannon, The Crystals and Dion.
Here’s the five top songs in alphabetical order by artist in this year’s poll:
“Palisades Park” by Freddy Cannon
“He’s a Rebel” by The Crystals
“The Wanderer” by Dion
“Wah-Watusi” by The Orlons
“Mashed Potato Time” by Dee Dee Sharp
